Earlier this year, NPR ran a great profile on one of television's most famous icons, Dr. Spock. With his ethos of service and sense of duty, Spock provided a calm, cool reason to Captain Kirk's fiery passion and drive. As one listener put it, the half Vulcan, half human "merged the brains of a supercomputer with the human ideals of diversity, loyalty, truth and logic."
While I must admit my memories of watching Star Trek are few, I know enough to value all he represented, as well as his contributions to that mythical, trailblazing team. So imagine my relief and excitement this morning, when Obama named Timothy Geithner as his Treasury Secretary. Certainly, any son of Spock has the power to beam us out of this epic mess.
