Rain and Shine

This was a big week. Not only did Celie celebrate her three month birthday with a trip to the French Quarter--she loves looking at trees along the riverfront--she also reached a few major milestones. Some happy, some sad, all good.

First: With no help from us (except, of course, that we put her in there), Celie sat upright in her Bumbo chair this week--no head flopping or anything! She held her little neck so steady, even looking from side to side.

Second: On October 4th, Celie got caught in her first rain shower. Luckily, we were in the most beautiful setting you can imagine for such a special occasion--the Botanical Gardens of City Park. Without an umbrella, we scurried through the rose garden to seek shelter among the tropical plants. All the time, Mike and I were excitedly saying, "Celie! This is rain! Doesn't it feel so good?"

Third: On a sadder note, this week we discovered that Celie's cries now come with the most heartwrenching accessory: tears. As if hearing her cry wasn't hard enough! These little clear drops that fall from the corners of her eyes make everything seem all the more painful. If we weren't suckers before, we will be now.

Finally, and best of all: Celie laughed out loud for the first time! A real, genuine laugh. Unlike some of her smiles, there's no mistaking this for gas--take a look at the video:

It's hard to believe she's already outgrown some of her clothes and scooting around in her crib. Now, we're just waiting for those eyebrows to come in.
